A brilliant performance by Portuguese superstar Ricardo Quaresma led Beşiktaş to a comfortable 2-0 win over HJK Helsinki in a Europa League playoff match on Tuesday.
The Istanbul side capitalized on its home-pitch advantage to take a 2-0 lead with it to Finland for the return match next week.
Quaresma passed a fine long ball to Rodrigo Tabata, who headed the ball to Roberto Hillbert to score in the 35th minute. However, the Portuguese signing’s real showing of abilities came in the 65th minute when he scored from long range, controlling and shooting the ball without letting it drop to tally a magnificent goal.
“I must say that was our best performance in the six games we’ve played so far,” said coach Bernd Schuster after the game. “We were the ones that dictated the play and got the result we deserved.”
The German also had time for Quaresma and said: “He needs to be motivated by the supporters. When he finds that support, he is absolutely superb.”
