Finland were not totally unable to create an opening in the first half hour, as they started to string some passes together, and their first chance fell to Henrik Daniel Sjolund, who scooped a difficult volley over the bar. Minutes later Alexei Eremenko had a shot which tested Eduardo in the Portugal goal. The shot-stopper survived a scare when he misplaced a pass in his own box, but Pepe was able to clean up for his ‘keeper.
Portugal finished the half strongly, with Quaresma’s runs causing problems for the Finnish defence, and on one typical Portuguese break, Quaresma snatched at a volley, slicing his shot wide.
Portugal continued to create openings in the second half. Quaresma flashed a ball across the face of goal, but there was no one to tap it in, and Pepe put a header over from a corner a moment later. In the 56th minute, they missed a golden opportunity. Following more quick passing, Hugo Almeida opted to try and back-heel a Nelson cross when he could have easily taken a touch, though replays showed him to be offside.
Portugal finally got a second goal in the 71st Minute. Nani, on as a substitute for Quaresma
